Story

1970 Plymouth GTX 440 Six Barrel

The 1970 Plymouth GTX 440 Six Barrel is tracked here as the V-code version of Plymouth's upscale B-body performance hardtop. GTX remained above Road Runner in trim and standard equipment, while the convertible body style was gone for GTX in 1970.

The powertrain boundary is clear enough for a complete public page: Plymouth's 440 Six Barrel used three Holley two-barrel carburetors, was available for Road Runner and GTX, and was rated at 390 horsepower and 490 lb-ft. The standard GTX engine remained the 440 four-barrel Super Commando, so this page treats the Six Barrel as the optional V-code factory configuration rather than a separate model line.

Production is recorded conservatively. Hagerty's sale reference reports 7,748 total 1970 GTX models, while the 440 Magnum Network table reports 678 Plymouth GTX two-door hardtops with the 440 Six-Pack/Six Barrel engine and notes that transmission breakdown information is unavailable. Those numbers are useful guideposts, not a substitute for factory production microfilm or a registry audit.

Authenticity guidance stays document-first. Photos, hood callouts, auction copy, and show captions are context. A specific car still needs RS23 GTX identity, V-code 440 Six Barrel evidence, transmission and axle package records, body/paint/stripe codes, and supporting fender tag or broadcast-sheet documentation.
