Story

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE 440 Six Pack

The R/T SE combined two sides of the first-year Challenger: the R/T's heavy-duty performance equipment and the SE's more formal roof and interior. The result was a JS29 sports hardtop with a vinyl roof, smaller rear window, pillar medallions, leather-and-vinyl bucket seats, and an overhead warning-light console.

Ordering the V-code 440 Six Pack added the 390-horsepower, 490-lb-ft RB V8 with three two-barrel carburetors. A heavy-duty A833 four-speed manual or 727 TorqueFlite automatic could be paired with the engine, while axle equipment and ratios depended on the transmission and performance package. The fender tag, broadcast sheet, axle identification, and drivetrain stampings are needed to establish an individual car's original combination.

The SE details did not replace the normal R/T choices. Twin-scoop and optional Shaker hoods, performance stripes, Rallye instruments, wheel treatments, and axle packages still created a wide range of legitimate appearances. The small rear window and SE trim establish the formal-hardtop branch, but they do not prove the V-code drivetrain by themselves.

Reviewed production references report 296 R/T SE sports hardtops with the 440 Six Pack for 1970. This page keeps that group separate from the 1,640 regular R/T hardtops and 99 R/T convertibles covered on the parent configuration page. A claimed factory car should begin with a JS29V VIN pattern and continue with consistent tags, paperwork, body numbers, and drivetrain dates.
