Story

1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda 340 Six Barrel

The 1970 AAR Cuda was Plymouth's factory-built Trans-Am homologation street car, added during the 1970 model year on the E-body Barracuda/'Cuda hardtop line. Registry and reference sources describe a short March-April 1970 production window and a total of 2,724 cars, split between A833 four-speed and TorqueFlite automatic builds.

The package centered on the 340 cubic-inch Six Barrel small-block: three two-barrel Holley carburetors on an Edelbrock aluminum intake, a functional fresh-air fiberglass hood, side-exit exhaust, and a factory rating of 290 hp. Chassis records for the A53 package tie the street car to power front disc brakes, 11-inch rear drums, Rallye suspension, front and rear sway bars, staggered E60-15/G60-15 Polyglas GT tires, 15 x 7 wheels, and an 8 3/4 Sure Grip axle with 3.55 gearing or an available 3.91 ratio.

Appearance is a major authentication area: AAR-specific strobe striping with AAR markings, black fiberglass hood treatment, rear deck spoiler, relocated rear-quarter antenna when radio-equipped, hood pins, and side-exit exhaust all need document-level verification on an individual car. This page avoids claiming upholstery combinations, color-by-AAR totals, or individual-car originality without a fender tag, broadcast sheet, registry file, or comparable target-specific evidence.
