Story

1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

The 1983 Firebird Trans Am family combined two-door four-passenger hatchback coupe with fixed roof or optional removable hatch panels with Trans Am coupe, Trans Am with removable hatch panels, Daytona 500 Pace Car replica configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.

Engines and transmissions

The 1983 Trans Am used several 5.0-liter V8 paths. Engine code, induction system, emissions equipment, transmission, axle, chassis package, production date, and records must be evaluated together. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.

Chassis and brakes

The third-generation F-body used front struts and a torque-arm live rear axle. WS6 changed braking, steering, springs, bars, wheels, and tires as one package. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.

Body, trim, and proof

Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
