Story

1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

The 1979 Firebird Trans Am family combined two-door four-passenger coupe with Trans Am, Trans Am with W72 400, Trans Am with T/A 6.6, 10th Anniversary Trans Am configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.

Engines and transmissions

The last W72 Pontiac 400/four-speed path, automatic 403 path, and 301 applications require different engine, transmission, emissions, axle, and chassis evidence. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.

Chassis and brakes

WS6 added model-specific steering, suspension, wheel, tire, and four-wheel-disc equipment; engine and package choices changed the complete chassis configuration. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.

Body, trim, and proof

Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
