Story

1967 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30

The W-30 turned the 1967 4-4-2 into Oldsmobile's sharper factory performance package. Its 400-cubic-inch V8 used a hotter W-30 camshaft, a Quadrajet four-barrel, chrome valve covers, and Outside Air Induction ducting that fed cooler air to the engine. Oldsmobile rated it at 350 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque.

Buyers could pair the W-30 with an M21 close-ratio four-speed or a specially calibrated WOG Turbo Hydra-Matic. Every W-30 used Oldsmobile's Model P Anti-Spin differential, with axle ratios selected around the transmission and brake package. The automatic's higher full-throttle shift points and firmer shifts made it more than a regular 4-4-2 automatic.

Correct hardware matters because the induction and battery pieces can be added later. The factory parts list identifies a 31-piece Outside Air Induction package, including the shroud, ducts, hoses, battery cover, retainer, vent, and long cable routing. Those parts support a car's configuration, but original paperwork, drivetrain codes, and build records remain the strongest way to establish that a particular 4-4-2 was built as a W-30.

Exact-year, stock-presenting 1967 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 retained for a distinct front angle, body, grille, brightwork, wheels, and stance; the photograph does not establish W-30 equipment.John Lloyd; crop and levels by Mr.choppers / Wikimedia Commons · CC BY 2.0

The Texas title's VIN Certification Waived remark and the absence of a cited factory invoice or broadcast card remain explicit limitations on car-specific identity confidence.

W-30 sports coupe 338077M250363 refurbished in 2018 with replacement four-speed transmission · modified · unknown The high bid did not meet reserve and is not a sale.
