Story

The first factory W-30

Oldsmobile introduced the 1966 W-30 late in the model year as a factory drag-racing package for the 4-4-2. It began with the L69 Tri-Carb 400 and four-speed drivetrain, then added bumper-fed Outside Air Induction, a special dual-snorkel air cleaner, hotter camshaft, stronger valve springs, selected engine preparation, a trunk-mounted battery, Anti-Spin rear axle, and heavy-duty supporting equipment.

Only 54 factory-built cars are documented: 25 Standard Club Coupes, 8 Deluxe Holiday Hardtops, 5 Cutlass Sports Coupes, and 16 Cutlass Holiday Coupes. No factory W-30 convertibles are recorded. Dealer-installed Track-Pac equipment could place similar hardware on other cars, so a genuine factory W-30 requires more than scoops or a Tri-Carb engine.

The strongest checks are the complete bumper-air system, relocated parking lamps, four-inch ducts, numbered 1966 air-cleaner assembly, trunk battery installation, correct Tri-Carb engine details, late B-1 cylinder heads, and paperwork consistent with the reported June 1966 Lansing production run. These clues work together; no single badge or component proves the car.
