1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna S-3
The 1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna S-3 is the first year of Chevrolet's post-SS Chevelle performance identity. Instead of reviving the old Super Sport badge, Chevrolet made the Laguna Type S-3 a single Colonnade coupe with a urethane nose, S-3 badging, Rally wheels, radial tire and suspension equipment, sport steering, bucket-seat/console presentation, and a more upscale interior than a base Chevelle.
For enthusiasts, the important boundary is that the 1974 car is not the later 1975-1976 aero-nose Laguna. The 1974 S-3 retained the earlier Laguna-style front end with a revised grille and rear bumper treatment, while still pointing toward the NASCAR story that made the Laguna name famous. Public references report 15,792 built for 1974, with 38,790 Type S-3 coupes across 1974-1976.
The powertrain story is late-classic rather than peak-muscle. The standard path was a 350 two-barrel V8, with 400 small-block and LS4 454 big-block options reported for 1974. The 454 four-barrel is reported at 235 SAE net horsepower, and a four-speed manual path is reported only with the 454; Turbo Hydra-Matic was the normal automatic path.
