Story

1972 Dodge Demon 340

The Demon 340 returned for 1972 as Dodge's compact A-body performance coupe. Its H-code 340 four-barrel LA V8 was rated at 240 net horsepower, backed by a floor-shifted three-speed manual, optional A833 four-speed, or optional 727 TorqueFlite automatic.

The 1972 model is easy to distinguish from the first-year Demon by its full-width grille, revised lamps and side markers, metal Demon and 340 identification, and available single twin-intake hood scoop. Rallye suspension and 10-inch drum brakes were standard performance equipment, while power front discs, Sure-Grip, bucket seats, a console, and appearance treatments were available.

The cited model reference reports 8,700 Demon 340s for 1972. That figure is retained as a reported count rather than presented as a reconciled factory-ledger total. The same boundary applies to the model-year paint palette: it is useful restoration context, but each car's original finish and stripe combination should come from its fender tag, broadcast sheet, or surviving paperwork.

Authentication begins with an LM29H2 VIN pattern and agreement among the fender tag, broadcast sheet, engine and transmission stampings, axle evidence, paint, trim, and options. Demon graphics, hood scoops, or an installed 340 cannot establish an original Demon 340 by themselves.
