1970 Plymouth Road Runner 440 Six Barrel
For 1970, Plymouth carried the 440 Six Barrel into the regular Road Runner option list. The E87 engine used three Holley two-barrel carburetors and was rated at 390 horsepower and 490 lb-ft. Plymouth called it Six Barrel; Six Pack is the familiar Dodge-era alias for the same basic engine family.
An A833 four-speed or 727 TorqueFlite automatic could be ordered. Rear axle, gearing, brakes, springs, shocks, and power-assist equipment varied with the body, transmission, and order, so this page avoids presenting one auction car's Dana 60 and 3.54 ratio as universal. The optional N96 Air Grabber gave the 1970 hood a driver-controlled fresh-air door.
The Six Barrel was offered across the Road Runner coupe, hardtop, and convertible bodies. A secondary production table reports 651 coupes, 1,846 hardtops, and 34 convertibles, for 2,531 cars. Those figures remain source-scoped until factory or registry production records are attached.
The model-year paint list records 27 Plymouth colors, including In-Violet, Lime Light, Vitamin C, Moulin Rouge, Lemon Twist, and more restrained metallic and solid choices. It is a Road Runner/model-year palette, not proof that every color was available with every V-code body and option combination.
Authentication starts with a V-code VIN and E87 records, then checks the fender tag, broadcast sheet, body stampings, engine pad and casting dates, three-carburetor induction, transmission, axle, paint, trim, and original paperwork. A later Six Barrel conversion or added Air Grabber does not make a factory V-code Road Runner.
