1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429 SCJ

The 1970 Torino Cobra was Ford's midsize blunt instrument: a SportsRoof Cobra with standard performance attitude and the optional 429 Cobra Jet family at the top of the order sheet. This page treats the car narrowly as a factory Torino Cobra with Super Cobra Jet/Drag Pack evidence, not just any 1970 Torino fastback with Cobra trim.

The key originality boundary is the Drag Pack. Ford performance literature and Torino data-plate references tie the Super Cobra Jet path to the 429 Cobra Jet family plus axle and driveline evidence such as 3.91 Traction-Lok or 4.30 Detroit Locker-style Drag Pack equipment, heavy-duty cooling/oil-cooling context, and the correct transmission path. A Cobra body, shaker hood, or later auction caption is useful context, but it is not enough by itself to prove an SCJ car.

The body and trim story is more visible.
