Story

1969 Plymouth Cuda 340

For 1969, Plymouth turned 'Cuda into a named performance package within the Barracuda line. The 340 version paired the 275-horsepower, four-barrel LA-series V8 with the Formula S chassis foundation, twin hood scoops, black hood and lower-body accents, heavy-duty suspension and brakes, and D70-14 tires.

The 340 was available with an A833 four-speed or TorqueFlite automatic. Reviewed specifications list a 3.23:1 standard rear ratio with 3.55:1 and 3.91:1 choices; Sure-Grip, front discs, power assistance, gauges, console, trim, and other equipment depended on the order.

The cited enthusiast production table reports 666 'Cuda 340 cars: 568 fastbacks and 98 hardtops, with no convertibles. It also reports 470 four-speeds and 196 automatics. These are secondary-source totals and remain attributed rather than presented as a surviving factory ledger.

Twenty-two documented 1969 Barracuda finishes are listed, including three special-order colors. Paint, twin scoops, stripes, wheels, or 'Cuda badges on a restored car remain context rather than proof of its factory configuration.

For authentication, begin with the P engine character in the 13-digit VIN, then reconcile the fender tag, broadcast sheet, body numbers, engine and transmission stampings, axle, paint, trim, and package equipment. Badges, stripes, hood treatment, or an installed 340 alone cannot establish original 'Cuda 340 identity.
