Story

1969 Chevrolet Impala SS427

The 1969 Impala SS427 is the final first-era full-size Chevrolet Super Sport. Checked references agree that the 1969 SS path is the Z24 SS427 package rather than a casual badge story, and the public page treats that distinction as the center of the record.

The strongest baseline is the L36 Turbo-Jet 427 path. Impalas.org lists a 1969 SS427 L36 suffix-code row with Turbo Hydra-Matic and manual applications, while period and public references describe the 1969 SS427 around a 427/390 hp context. The L72 high-output 427 path appears in checked references, but this page does not turn every SS427 into an L72 car. Engine pad stamps, transmission tags, Protect-O-Plate records and build documents are still required for an individual car.

The exterior cues are useful but not enough on their own. The 1969 SS427 used SS badging, a blacked-out grille with horizontal bars and full-size Impala trim context, while hide-away headlights are explicitly treated as non-SS427 factory equipment in the checked public reference. Production is held as a reported 2,455 SS427/Z24 cars, with body styles listed as Convertible, Custom Coupe and Sport Coupe but without asserting unsupported body-style splits.
