Story

The 1967 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova SS L79 is best understood as an exception record, not as a normal catalog path. Chevrolet kept the 1967 Nova Super Sport as the top Chevy II hardtop, with bucket seats, SS trim, a floor-shift plate for four-speed or automatic cars, and a black-accented Nova SS grille and deck-lid treatment. Over-Drive's 1967 Chevy II fact sheet lists the regular 1967 engine lineup through the L30 327-cubic-inch 275-hp V8, while its image captions note that the removal of the 350-hp 327 option pushed many lightweight two-door cars toward modified racing lives.

The L79 exception is documented from a survivor and auction-record path. Mecum's 1967 Nova SS L79 record identifies a 327/325-hp engine, 4-speed manual transmission, Emerald Turquoise exterior, black interior, and a claimed one-of-six production boundary, with one of three documented examples known to exist. That is enough to publish the 1967 L79 page as a source-qualified rarity, but not enough to treat every 1967 Nova SS as an L79 candidate without paperwork.

The chassis record follows the same split. Over-Drive supports normal 1967 Chevy II rear-gear and powertrain option context, while GM Classics lists 1967 option-code coverage including F40 special suspension, G80 Positraction, G96 3.55 rear axle, H05 3.73 rear axle, J50 power brakes, and J52 front disc brakes. Mecum adds the documented-survivor details of a 4-speed manual, conventional 12-bolt rear end, correct spiral shocks, exhaust, T3 headlights, mag-style wheel covers, and 6.95-14 blackwall tires.

Authenticity depends on documents. Mecum lists the original Protect-O-Plate and warranty book, copy of the original MSO and previous titles, original trim tag with 06A build date, magazine articles, and the original L79 engine for the cited car. For any other 1967 claim, this page treats VIN, trim tag, engine pad, drivetrain stamps, Protect-O-Plate, MSO, invoices, and restoration history as the meaningful proof path. The gallery uses exact-year Nova SS exterior images and source cards for the engine and chassis evidence so representative media does not become false originality proof.
