1956 Corvette three-speed and Powerglide transmission range

transmission · Chevrolet

Reviewed factory-specification card summarizing the 1956 Corvette engine range, transmissions, axle ratios, suspension, and brakes. 1956 Chevrolet Corvette

Why It Matters

A close-ratio three-speed manual was standard for 1956, while the two-speed Powerglide remained optional. Chevrolet's published table divides the 3,080 dual-quad cars into 1,510 manuals and 1,570 Powerglides but does not publish the transmission split for the 387 standard-engine cars. Case, date, linkage, engine suffix, and history remain necessary for car-specific verification.
