Why It Matters
The 1956 Corvette used a semi-floating hypoid live rear axle on longitudinal leaf springs. The normal ratio was 3.55:1, with a no-cost 3.27:1 highway ratio and a documented 4.11:1 performance path. Positraction did not arrive until 1957, so ratio, housing, dates, and service history must be checked without assuming limited slip.
