Why It Matters
The unit-body American used a high-mounted Deep-Coil front suspension and 52-inch rear leaf springs. Non-wagon rear springs had four leaves, while the separate heavy-duty spring option used five. The optional handling package added a front sway bar and heavy-duty shocks, not heavy-duty springs.
