Story

The name moved up a size

Ford ended compact Falcon production during the 1970 model year, then reused the name on a lower-priced intermediate beneath the Fairlane 500. The replacement lasted only eight months. Its pillared two-door sedan was unique in Ford's intermediate line, while the four-door sedan and wagon shared their basic bodies with Fairlane and Torino relatives.

Economy car, full engine shelf

Rubber floor covering, bench seating, and restrained trim made the Falcon the price leader. Underneath, however, it could use the intermediate line's engines: a 250 six, 302 and 351 V8s, the 429 Thunder Jet, and 429 Cobra Jet with or without Ram Air. Ordering the 3.91 Traction-Lok or 4.30 Detroit Locker Drag Pack changed the 429 CJ into the stronger Super Cobra Jet configuration.

One Falcon page, several configurations

The 429 cars are the headline, not a separate Falcon model. This page keeps the regular six-cylinder and small-block cars, three body styles, CJ and SCJ paths, transmissions, axles, brakes, suspension, paint, and cabin choices together. That prevents badges, a Shaker, or a later 429 swap from creating a duplicate public identity.

Reading a real car

Begin with VIN body code 26, 27, or 40 and engine character L, F, H, M, N, C, or J. Then reconcile the body/data plate, invoice or Marti report, drivetrain casting and date evidence, transmission tag, axle tag and ratio, hidden paint, interior construction, and restoration history. A V or W axle code supports Drag Pack equipment; a scoop, wheels, stripes, or engine appearance alone does not.
