Story

1964 Pontiac Catalina

The Catalina was Pontiac's broad full-size series for 1964, offered as sedans, hardtops, a convertible, and Safari wagons. The 2+2 joined the family as a performance package rather than a separate model-year identity.

Engines and transmissions

An economy 215-cubic-inch six sat below the 389 V8 range. Four-barrel, Tri-Power, and limited 421 configurations carried different compression, induction, cooling, transmission, and axle requirements. Three-speed, four-speed, and Super Hydra-Matic paths must remain application-specific.

Chassis and equipment

Coil springs supported independent front suspension and the four-link live rear axle. Drum brakes were standard; power assist, Safe-T-Track, heavy-duty chassis equipment, and eight-lug aluminum wheel and finned-drum hardware were optional by application.

Identity

Begin with the serial, body tag, title, shell, and factory record. Then reconcile engine, induction, transmission, axle, brakes, suspension, protected finish, cabin, trim, options, dates, and ownership history. A 2+2 badge, bucket seats, Tri-Power, or eight-lug wheels cannot prove how a Catalina was built.
