1953 Chevrolet Corvette
The 1953 Corvette began production on June 30 on Chevrolet's pilot line in Flint, Michigan. Only 300 were assembled, all as two-seat fiberglass roadsters finished in Polo White with red interiors and black folding tops. That uniform specification makes the first production year easy to describe, but it does not make surviving cars interchangeable: serial identity, component dates, body and frame evidence, and restoration history still matter.
Every production car used Chevrolet's 235.5-cubic-inch Blue Flame overhead-valve inline-six. Triple Carter YH side-draft carburetors helped it reach a published 150 gross horsepower and 223 lb-ft of torque. A two-speed Powerglide automatic and 3.55:1 live rear axle were the only documented production drivetrain combination. Public references identify early and later block and carburetor designs, but do not establish a complete serial-number transition ledger, so those details need car-specific judging evidence.
Under the fiberglass body was a boxed steel frame with an X-member and a 102-inch wheelbase. The chassis used independent front suspension with coil springs, a live rear axle on semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel 11-inch hydraulic drum brakes. Red steel wheels, whitewall tires, a wide chrome grille, split bumpers, wire-mesh headlamp guards, and exhaust outlets through the rear body defined the production appearance.
The red cockpit carried two bucket seats, a floor-mounted Powerglide selector, a 140-mph speedometer, tachometer, auxiliary gauges, and a two-spoke steering wheel. The black soft top used removable framed side curtains rather than roll-up windows, and the production doors had no exterior handles. A heater and signal-seeking AM radio appeared on the option list and are reported on all 300 cars.

No single badge, award, display sheet, or component proves a car's original identity.

They describe different restored cars and conditions rather than a universal value. A present appraisal should account for serial-specific provenance, originality, restoration quality, awards, and inspection findings.
