Story

1982 Chevrolet Corvette

The final C3 model year paired the familiar two-seat Sport Coupe with the Collector Edition. Both belong on one 1982 Corvette page: they share the L83 Cross-Fire Injection V8, MX0 automatic overdrive, independent chassis, and core identity, while the Collector Edition adds a distinct opening-hatch body configuration and equipment package.

One power team

Every 1982 Corvette used the 200-hp L83 350 with dual-throttle-body Cross-Fire Injection and the 700-R4 four-speed automatic overdrive. There was no production manual or alternate engine. Standard wheels used a 2.72 axle; aluminum-wheel applications used 2.87, with limited slip standard.

Sport Coupe and Collector Edition

The regular 1YY87 Sport Coupe retained fixed fastback rear glass. The 1YY07 Collector Edition introduced a remotely released, fully opening frameless glass hatch, plus Silver Beige paint with graduated shadow treatment, special wheels and emblems, bronze glass roof panels, and a coordinated leather cabin. Those parts are replaceable, so the VIN, body, build evidence, and complete equipment set must agree.

Production, price, and proof

Chevrolet built 25,407 Corvettes for 1982: 18,648 regular Sport Coupes and 6,759 Collector Editions. Published base prices were $18,290.07 and $22,537.59 before destination and options. Start with the VIN, title, body structure, build sheet, and ownership history, then reconcile the L83/MX0 drivetrain, axle, chassis, paint, trim, options, and dates.
