Story

1971 Holden Torana

The 1971 Torana page keeps the complete LC model-year family together while separating regular, S, SL, GTR, and GTR XU-1 equipment. That gives enthusiasts one comparison point without implying that a stripe, spoiler, badge, or triple-carburetor conversion creates an XU-1.

Engines and transmissions

Regular four- and six-cylinder paths sit beside the GTR sports engine and the XU-1 package. The XU-1 used model-year-specific engine, induction, exhaust, gearbox, fuel, brake, suspension, wheel, and appearance equipment. Stamps, castings, dates, controls, and records must agree with the selected path.

Chassis and equipment

The unit body used independent coil-spring front suspension and a coil-sprung trailing-arm live rear axle. Brake, axle, ratio, limited-slip, spring, bar, and damper choices varied by configuration. Later competition allowances and common road modifications remain changes, not factory evidence.

Paint, cabin, and identity

Factory colors, stripes, badges, wheels, upholstery, instruments, and controls depended on model and production date. Start with plates, chassis number, shell, title, and build history, then reconcile the drivetrain and every dated component. The series-wide production total is useful context but is not a 1971-only rarity ledger.
