1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 B09 Police Apprehender
Oldsmobile introduced its first 4-4-2 during the 1964 model year as option B09 for V8-powered F-85 and Cutlass models other than station wagons. Its name described the hardware: a four-barrel carburetor, four-speed floor-shift transmission, and dual exhausts. It was a performance package rather than a separate model.
The 330-cubic-inch Rocket V8 was rated at 310 horsepower and 355 lb-ft. A higher-lift camshaft, stronger valve springs, upgraded bearings, Rochester 4GC carburetor, and dual-snorkel air cleaner distinguished it from the regular 290-hp Cutlass engine. A four-speed manual was the only transmission, paired with a standard 3.36 rear axle.
The police-package roots mattered most in the chassis. Oldsmobile specified 410-lb front and 160-lb rear springs, heavy-duty shocks, a larger front stabilizer bar, and a rear stabilizer bar. The package also brought 14x6 wheels and 7.50x14 redline nylon tires. Hydraulic 9.5-inch drum brakes were standard; power assist was optional.
Factory production records account for 2,999 cars: 2,841 Cutlasses, 151 standard F-85s, and seven F-85 Deluxe sedans. The Cutlass total included 563 sport coupes, 1,842 Holiday hardtops, and 436 convertibles. Ten four-door F-85 sedans were also built, showing why this page covers the complete B09 package rather than only the familiar hardtop.
Authentication requires more than the three 4-4-2 emblems. The VIN establishes the V8 F-85 series, model year, assembly plant, and serial sequence, but does not encode B09. Factory paperwork, the four-speed floor opening, the correct 330 and Rochester carburetor, dual exhaust, dual-snorkel air cleaner, front and rear stabilizer bars, heavy-duty suspension, wheels, tires, and date-compatible components should agree before a car is represented as a factory 1964 4-4-2.
