Story

For 1964, Marauder identified Mercury's fastback hardtop body style rather than one engine-specific model. Buyers could choose two- or four-door Marauders in the Monterey, Montclair, or Park Lane series. That six-body structure belongs on one model-year page: series, body code, trim, and drivetrain explain the individual car without splitting every 390 or 427 choice into a duplicate page.

Mercury's FE range began with two 390 two-barrel calibrations and extended through the 300-hp Super 390 and 330-hp Interceptor 390. The single-four-barrel Q-code 427 was rated at 410 gross hp, while the dual-four-barrel R-code Super 427 was rated at 425 gross hp. Both 427 paths required the four-speed manual; Multi-Drive Merc-O-Matic remained a 390-only choice in the factory compatibility table.

All six Marauder bodies rode a 120-inch wheelbase. Swept-back ball-joint front suspension, rear leaf springs with asymmetrical axle mounting, an integral semi-floating hypoid axle, and self-adjusting 11-inch drum brakes defined the chassis. Conventional and Equa-Lock axle codes covered 3.00, 3.25, 3.50, 3.89, and 4.11 ratios. Exact ratio and powertrain compatibility still require the individual warranty plate and dated component records.

Published body totals add to 34,396 Marauders: 12,903 Montereys, 15,114 Montclairs, and 6,379 Park Lanes. Those totals do not provide an audited engine, transmission, paint, Sports Package, Q-code, or R-code split, so none is inferred here. A fastback roof, 427 badges, dual quads, or later performance parts cannot authenticate a Super Marauder by themselves; the warranty number, data plate, order history, drivetrain, dates, and restoration record must agree.
