Story
1962 Ford Fairlane 500
The 1962 Fairlane 500 family combined two-door or four-door sedan and station wagon with Fairlane 500 two-door sedan, Fairlane 500 four-door sedan, Fairlane 500 wagon configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.
Engines and transmissions
The 170 six supported regular service while the new 221 and 260 Challenger V8 paths introduced distinct cooling, exhaust, transmission, axle, and identification requirements. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.
Chassis and brakes
The intermediate unibody used independent front coils and a leaf-sprung live rear axle, with body- and load-specific springs and brakes. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.
Body, trim, and proof
Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
