Story

1957 Ford Fairlane 500

The 1957 Fairlane 500 family combined club sedan, town sedan, club victoria two-door hardtop, town victoria four-door hardtop, sunliner convertible, and skyliner retractable hardtop with sedans, hardtops, Sunliner convertible, Skyliner retractable hardtop configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.

Engines and transmissions

The Fairlane 500 ranged from the 223-cid six through regular Y-block V8s to the dual-four-barrel E-code and supercharged F-code 312. Serial and body records, engine code, induction, transmission, axle, cooling, exhaust, dates, and surviving components define one car. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.

Chassis and brakes

The full-size Ford chassis used independent coil-spring front suspension, a leaf-sprung live rear axle, and four-wheel drum brakes, with power assistance and heavier-duty equipment varying by order and powertrain. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.

Body, trim, and proof

Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
