Why It Matters
Chevrolet offered the 409 in 1962 as the single-four-barrel 380-hp RPO 580 and dual-four-barrel 409-hp RPO 587. Both used 11.0:1 compression, mechanical lifters, a forged-steel crankshaft, and dual exhaust.
