- Ford's October 1, 1963 six-cylinder and V8 AMA forms specify independent short-and-long-arm front suspension with ball joints, SAE 9260/5160 coil springs, linked SAE 1090 stabilizers, and direct-acting Ford or Gabriel shocks. The front-coil table lists 10.45 x 4.03-inch coils with 149.44 x 0.710-inch or 161.84 x 0.722-inch bar schedules, 380 or 400 lb/in spring rates, 97 lb/in at the wheel, and design loads of 2,225, 2,325, 2,425, or 2,550 pounds. The linked front stabilizer is 0.69 inch for regular passenger cars and 0.72 inch for Model 71; shock-piston diameters are 1 inch normally and 1.1875 inches on Model 71. Rear Hotchkiss suspension uses 60 x 2.50-inch semi-elliptic SAE 5160 leaves: the table lists 103 lb/in standard passenger, 126 lb/in Model 71, 133 lb/in heavy-duty passenger, and 154 lb/in heavy-duty Model 71 schedules, with corresponding design loads of 925 or 955 pounds by passenger body, 1,175 pounds for Model 71, 1,015 pounds for heavy-duty passenger bodies, and 1,300 pounds for heavy-duty Model 71. Models 62 and 63 use four leaves, models 54, 57, and 76 use five, and Model 71 and heavy-duty schedules use six. No rear stabilizer or track bar is listed. These regular-production engineering tables do not establish 427/competition service part numbers, factory lightweight identity, or installation on an individual car.
