- The factory information kit specifies an 8.5-inch three-piece Salisbury axle with a cast-iron differential carrier, welded steel tubes, semi-floating shafts, hypoid gearing, and a two-pinion single-disc-clutch Positraction differential. It gives 41/11 teeth for 3.73 and 41/12 for 3.42, a 1.75-inch pinion offset, shim bearing adjustment, 4.25-pint SAE 80 capacity, and the identification stamp location on the axle tube beside the carrier. These model-year specifications do not establish the original axle in an individual car.
