- The CTCI undercarriage reference identifies the 1955-1956 Thunderbird rear axle by a separate differential cover and calls for black finish on both the housing assembly and cover. It separately identifies a removable third member and pinion housing for 1957, so those later features should not be used to authenticate a 1955 axle. Judging guidance and finish do not establish the original ratio, assembly date, or installation in an individual car.
