- Hudson Technical Service Bulletin TS 78-24 identifies the 1948-1952 H-type rear axle by its welded housing cover and locates the ratio stamp on the differential-carrier flange where it bolts to the housing. For 1951 it maps 4.10:1 to stamp 1-10, 4.55:1 to 5-9, and 3.58:1 to 7-12; its usage table marks the 3.58 manual ratio as Hornet-only and illustrates the removable carrier, tapered keyed axle shafts, bearing-adjusting caps and shims, and separate differential-case halves. These service identifiers do not prove the original axle or ratio in an individual car.
