- Mercury's September 1, 1964 AMA sheet specifies self-adjusting, single-circuit hydraulic Duo-Servo brakes for 289-powered 1965 Comets. The regular non-Model-71/76 path has 126.0 square inches effective lining area, 152.8 square inches gross lining area, 251.3 square inches swept drum area, 60.6 percent front effectiveness, riveted molded-asbestos linings, a 1-inch master-cylinder bore, 6.5 inches available pedal travel or 4.75 inches with power assist, 750 psi line pressure at a 100-pound pedal load, and 0.015-inch shoe clearance. The factory brochure separately limits power brakes to automatic-transmission applications; the values do not establish service-part or individual-car identity.
