Story
1993 Ford Taurus SHO
The 1993 SHO offers two distinct factory engine/transaxle combinations: the standard 3.0-liter DOHC V6 with a five-speed manual, and the optional 3.2-liter DOHC V6 with an electronically controlled four-speed automatic. Ford's model-year equipment table joins these applications explicitly; it does not establish a 3.0 automatic or 3.2 manual.
Ratings and equipment boundaries
Ford lists 220 hp at 6,200 rpm for the 3.0-liter manual application. Richard Truett's contemporary test reports 220 hp for the 3.2-liter automatic but does not establish its output rpm. The manual's rpm is not transferred to the automatic. Torque, exact final-drive ratios and the automatic engine's induction classification remain unverified here.
The 183 and 195 cubic-inch values are rounded conversions of the brochure's nominal 3.0 and 3.2 liters, not exact factory displacement measurements. Both are front-drive SHO applications with factory-listed four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes and special handling suspension. The brochure shows the power moonroof and passenger air bag as optional in this edition, contrary to broader equipment claims in the period test. The automatic option carries a dealer-availability caveat.
Documentation and photo pending
The brochure cover establishes the 1993 model year. Its images are technical references, not licensed site photography. An exact-year reusable exterior photograph is still sought. No borrowed acceleration figures, production totals or later-year specifications are presented as verified 1993 facts.
