Story
1988 Dodge Lancer Shelby
Dodge offered the Lancer Shelby Package on the Lancer ES for 1988. Its factory brochure distinguishes two powertrains rather than presenting the automatic as a transmission choice for the same intercooled engine. The package includes the 2.2-liter Turbo II and a high-capacity five-speed manual; a footnote offers the 2.2-liter Turbo I with a three-speed automatic instead.
Two factory applications
The engine table lists both engines at 135 cubic inches. The intercooled Turbo II is rated at 174 hp at 5,200 rpm and 200 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm. The Turbo I is rated at 146 hp at 5,200 rpm and 170 lb-ft at 2,400 rpm. These are the brochure's SAE net ratings, not results from a test of an individual surviving car. Both use multipoint electronic fuel injection.
Sport handling suspension and four-wheel disc brakes appear in the Shelby package equipment. The table's overall top-gear ratios combine gearing and must not be presented as axle ratios; final-drive values remain unknown here. Ordinary Lancer and ES engine options do not expand the Shelby package's two documented applications.
Exact-year documentation and photo pending
The photographed factory brochure identifies the 1988 Dodge Lancer and joins the package to its engines and transaxles. It is technical evidence, not a license to reuse its photographs. A reusable exact-year exterior photo remains pending. This page does not substitute the differently named 1987 Shelby Lancer, borrow 1989 specifications or claim individual-car build details and production totals.
