1987 Shelby CSX

The 1987 Shelby CSX paired a compact front-drive hatchback with Shelby's intercooled 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The contemporary brochure specifies 175 horsepower, 175 lb-ft across a broad engine-speed range, and a five-speed manual.

Performance beyond the traditional formula

The CSX shows why the comeback period cannot be described only through V8 coupes. Turbocharging, electronic fuel injection, chassis tuning, and a numbered Shelby program created a different but documented American performance route.
