Story
1980 Mercury Capri RS
The 1980 Capri RS family combined three-door hatchback coupe with RS with 2.3 four, RS Turbo, RS with 3.3 six, RS with 4.2 V8 configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.
Engines and transmissions
The RS could be ordered around four distinct engine paths, including the Turbo four and 4.2-liter V8. Engine-specific suspension, transmission, axle, emissions, cooling, and appearance details must remain linked. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.
Chassis and brakes
The Fox chassis used front struts and a four-link coil-sprung live rear axle. RS tuning varied bars, springs, bushings, wheels, tires, and axle ratio with the selected engine. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.
Body, trim, and proof
Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
