Story
1979 AMC Spirit AMX
The 1979 Spirit AMX family combined two-door liftback coupe with AMX with 258 inline-six, AMX with 304 V8 configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.
Engines and transmissions
The AMX combined the 258 inline-six or optional 304 V8 with manual or automatic driveline choices. Powertrain codes, emissions equipment, axle, chassis hardware, and dates define one car. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.
Chassis and brakes
The Spirit used AMC's compact independent front suspension and leaf-sprung live rear axle. AMX tuning added anti-roll control, with axle and spring details tied to powertrain. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.
Body, trim, and proof
Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
