Story

1974 Pontiac Ventura

The 1974 Ventura family combined two-door coupe or hatchback and four-door sedan with Ventura, Ventura Custom, GTO option configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.

Engines and transmissions

The 250 six and 350 two-barrel served regular Ventura configurations, while the GTO option paired a 350 four-barrel with configuration-specific chassis, exhaust, appearance, and records. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.

Chassis and brakes

The X-body used independent front coils and a leaf-sprung live rear axle, with GTO-option chassis and brake equipment kept configuration-specific. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.

Body, trim, and proof

Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
