Story

1974 Pontiac Grand Am

The 1974 Grand Am family combined two-door or four-door colonnade hardtop with two-door Grand Am, four-door Grand Am configurations. This page keeps those factory choices together without treating an engine, stripe, badge, or trim package as a separate car identity.

Engines and transmissions

The 400 two-barrel, 400 four-barrel, and 455 four-barrel configurations retain separate induction, emissions, cooling, transmission, and axle requirements. Transmission, induction, cooling, exhaust, axle, emissions equipment, and dates must match the selected engine path.

Chassis and brakes

The A-body combined independent front coils and a four-link coil-sprung rear axle with Grand Am-specific radial-tire chassis tuning. Brake, steering, spring, damper, axle, ratio, wheel, and tire equipment varied by configuration and must be reconciled to factory and car-specific records.

Body, trim, and proof

Start with VIN or serial, body tag, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile drivetrain, chassis, protected finish, cabin, trim, dates, and records. Replaceable badges, stripes, wheels, or a swapped engine cannot establish factory configuration.
