1967 AMC Marlin
The Marlin was completely redesigned for its final model year. Model 6759-7 moved from the 112-inch Classic platform to the new 118-inch Ambassador platform, growing longer, wider, and roomier while retaining a Marlin-only pillarless fastback roof and rear body. Engines, transmissions, axle, brakes, paint, roof, seating, and equipment remain configurations on this one family page.
Five engine configurations
The standard Torque Command 232 six used a one-barrel carburetor for 145 gross horsepower, with a 155-hp two-barrel version optional. The new lightweight Typhoon V8 family supplied a 200-hp 290 two-barrel, a 235-hp 343 two-barrel for regular fuel, and a 280-hp 343 four-barrel for premium fuel. The factory data book says the 225-hp 290 four-barrel was not available in Rebel, Ambassador, or Marlin models, so a current four-barrel 290 does not establish factory Marlin equipment.
Manual, overdrive, four-speed, and automatic
The transmission range included a column three-speed, overdrive for the sixes and 290 two-barrel, a Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed for V8 applications, column Flash-O-Matic automatic, and console Shift-Command automatic for eligible bucket-seat V8 cars. Engine application, case, clutch or converter, pedals, controls, console, driveshaft, axle, dates, and records should be evaluated together.
Open driveshaft and four-link rear suspension
The 1967 chassis replaced the earlier torque tube with an open propeller shaft and a new live rear axle located by four trailing links. Deep coil springs remained at the rear, while Road-Command independent front suspension used deep coils and an anti-sway bar. Heavy-duty springs and shocks were optional. Twin-Grip limited slip was available, but the reviewed public extract does not provide a complete engine-and-transmission ratio schedule.
Dual-circuit drums and optional V8 discs
Standard brakes were self-adjusting 10-inch drums with separate front and rear hydraulic circuits, a tandem master cylinder, and a pressure-loss warning lamp. Power-assisted Bendix front discs with rear drums were optional on V8 cars. Current discs, boosters, suspension pieces, or axle internals require their own dates and records.
Finish, cabin, and equipment
The factory data book lists 15 model-year colors but says 11 were available on the Marlin, along with 14 two-tone combinations and optional black or white vinyl-covered roofs. Until the complete Marlin-only compatibility matrix is independently transcribed, the broader paint entries remain marked unknown for Marlin availability. Body-tag codes, protected finish, roof seams, trim code, and ordering records remain decisive.
The six-passenger cabin could be configured with reclining seats, buckets, headrests, fold-down armrests, or a console according to the seating and transmission path. Standard equipment included carpeting, a molded headliner, a safety-styled instrument panel, and a 120-mph speedometer. A top-of-panel tachometer and adjustable steering wheel were optional. Woodgrain trim is common, while early-production engine-turned trim requires production-timing and car-specific support.
Production and authentication
American Motors built 2,545 Marlins for 1967. No reviewed public ledger provides an audited engine, transmission, axle, brake, paint, roof, seat, or option split, so this page does not infer rarity from a survivor's equipment. Authentication starts with the 13-character VIN and model 6759-7 body tag, then reconciles engine code and ID, induction, transmission, open driveshaft, four-link axle and Twin-Grip, brakes, suspension, paint and roof, trim code, component dates, original paperwork, and restoration history.
Market context
Dated records separate sold cars from a reserve-not-met bid, identify project and restored condition, and flag the 2023 and 2026 appearances of A7KA97W102298 as the same car rather than two independent examples. They provide historical context, not a current appraisal or proof of another Marlin's identity. A base MSRP is not published because the reviewed secondary figures conflict and an exact-effective-date factory price schedule or serial-bound window sticker has not been recovered.
