Story

1959 Plymouth Sport Fury

The 1959 Sport Fury was Plymouth's premium two-door line, sold as a hardtop Sports Coupe and convertible. The 318-cubic-inch four-barrel Power Pak V8 was standard at 260 gross horsepower; the 305-hp 361 Golden Commando was optional. Reported production totals 23,857.

Powertrain

Three-speed manual, overdrive, and TorqueFlite paths require matching controls, cooling, axle ratios, and records. The 318 and 361 use different blocks, induction, compression, exhaust, and calibration. A four-barrel or Golden Commando badge cannot establish original delivery.

Chassis and equipment

Longitudinal torsion bars supported the independent front suspension, while the live rear axle used leaf springs. Four-wheel drums were standard hardware. Power assists, Sure-Grip, rare Level-Flite equipment, wheels, tires, and springs varied by order.

Identity

Start with serial and body records, title, shell, and ownership history. Then reconcile engine, induction, transmission, axle, brakes, suspension, protected finish, swivel seats, upholstery, instruments, moldings, medallions, Sport Deck trim, and dates. Appearance pieces are supporting evidence, not identity proof.
