Story

1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk

The 1958 Golden Hawk was the final version of Studebaker's supercharged pillarless hardtop. Its 289-cubic-inch V8, centrifugal supercharger, and four-barrel carburetor produced a factory-rated 275 gross horsepower. Studebaker National Museum reports 878 cars.

Powertrain

Manual, overdrive, and Flight-O-Matic paths require different controls, cooling, axle ratios, and records. The supercharger, pressure enclosure, carburetor, plumbing, brackets, pulleys, and dates must reconcile with the engine and car.

Chassis and body

Independent coil-spring front suspension, a leaf-sprung live rear axle, and four-wheel drums supported the pillarless hardtop. Power assists, Twin-Traction, wheels, tires, springs, and dampers varied by order.

Identity

Start with the serial, body, title, shell, and ownership history. Then match engine, supercharger, induction, transmission, axle, brakes, suspension, paint, upholstery, instruments, trim, and dates. Golden Hawk fins, scripts, hood treatment, or a later supercharger installation cannot establish factory identity.
