Why It Matters
Chevrolet's Z09 program combined a Vega hatchback with the Cosworth-designed twin-cam engine, Bendix electronic fuel injection, a model-specific chassis and black-and-gold numbered identity. The program is tracked separately because appearance pieces or a serialized plaque cannot establish an individual car's factory identity.
