Authenticity reference

440 engine assembly pad/date-code sanity check

numbers matching · reported

Reference Details

Common issue
A replacement 440, restamped block, or engine-date sequence that does not plausibly precede the car build date being represented as original to the Daytona.
Confidence
reported
Correct value
A 1969 passenger-car 440 should carry its engine ID on the top pad ahead of the intake and behind the water pump; the stamp includes the engine final-assembly date, E model-year/passenger-car designation, and 440 displacement, and the date should not be seriously inconsistent with the car assembly date.
Where to check
Engine identification pad, fender tag or broadcast-sheet scheduled/build date, and authenticator rubbings or close inspection of stamp character size and spacing.
